Ohio Barns topic of Program

Daniel Troth of GreenTech Construction, who has been studying barns for more than 25 years and is the president of the nonprofit group Friends of Ohio Barns, will discuss “Ohio Barns: Icons of Our Agrarian Past” at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 10, in one of those buildings: the Garth Oberlander Barn at Garth’s Auctions at Stratford Road and U.S. 23 in Delaware.

The talk is free and open to the public. Freewill donations will be accepted.

Troth currently is attempting to determine the building date of the Oberlander Barn through a process known as dendrochronology. Troth expects to complete his work before the program.

Other points Troth will discuss during the presentation include early area settlements and the Robert M. Cellar barn restoration at Home Road and state Route 315. He will include pictures of old barns and describe building techniques during the program.

Troth lives in a restored barn, which he moved from Waynesville to Delaware County in 1998. GreenTech Construction specializes in building energy efficient and environmentally friendly homes in Central Ohio.

[Updates]

The Oberlander Barn is now The Barn at Stratford Event Venue, a project of The Delaware County Historical Society.  The dendrochronlology analysis has been done, you can read about it in House and Barn Dated.
