Historic Delaware House Available Via Auction
A historic Delaware house is undergoing a foreclosure auction, providing the possibility of obtaining a unique piece of local heritage.
249 North Sandusky Street
According to the website OhioForeclosures.com, the brick Italianate house at 249 North Sandusky Street is undergoing an online foreclosure auction ending on November 17. The current bid is $1,000, which has not met the reserve price.
The winning bid was $199,100
A number of conditions apply, all of which can be read on the auction site.
In 1910, 249 North Sandusky Street was lived in by Stephen and Sylvia Ekelberry; Stephan was a railroad machinist. At a later point the house was the residence of noted OWU English Professor Philip Darrell Sherman.
The house appears to date from 1865 to 1870, one of Delaware’s numerous brick homes built by the Civil War generation, and appears to feature its original front porches. It is a contributing structure to Delaware’s Northwest Neighborhood National Register Historic District.
The Delaware County Historical Society supports the preservation of historic buildings and the “This Place Matters” program of the National Register of Historic Places.
