Delaware County Historical Society will present a Zoom program on Industrial History: Agricultural Implements
Delaware County Historical Society volunteer Steve Schmitt will discuss the history of manufacturing farm implements in Delaware County. This event will be held on Zoom only on January 23rd at 7pm.
Delaware County’s manufacturing history is a rich tapestry woven together by the ingenuity and entrepreneurial spirit of its residents. From the early days of wagon manufacturing in the 1800s, which catered to the thriving agricultural sector, the county’s manufacturing landscape has evolved significantly, reflecting broader technological advancements and the changing needs of our agricultural society.
In the early 19th century, Delaware County became known for its production of wooden wagons and various agricultural implements and as the 19th century progressed, innovations such as steam power and later electricity began to transform manufacturing processes. Local businesses began to produce more complex agricultural machinery, such as plows, seeders, and threshing machines. These changes not only enhanced efficiency in farming but also contributed to increased agricultural productivity, further supporting the local economy. This program will cover these topics and more.
This program is sponsored by The Delaware County Farm Bureau.
