Delaware County Historical Society will present a panel discussion on the history of farming in our county. Titled – Farming – Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow, this event will take place on Thursday, February 20 at 7pm, at the Barn at Stratford, 2690 Stratford Road, Delaware. NEW option! Registrants will be able to watch the live stream program from their laptop or computer. For a minimal fee of $5, viewers will receive a link to watch the program on YouTube.
Join us for an insightful discussion on the evolution of agriculture in Delaware County. As development and change sweep the region, we invite you to hear firsthand from seasoned farmers and experts who have witnessed the transformation of the agricultural landscape. Over 46% of our county land is used for farming and it is one of the top industries in the area.
Our panel, moderated by DCHS board president, Karen Cowan, will feature family farmers with deep roots in the community, sharing their experiences and reflections on farming practices from the past to the present. You’ll learn about the innovative techniques they’ve implemented over the years and how they have adapted to economic and environmental challenges. We will also have representatives from the Ohio State Extension Services, who will provide valuable insights into the future of agriculture as an industry in Delaware County. Together, we’ll explore the potential impacts of urban development, technology advancements, and sustainability practices on farming in the region.
The panel members include Rob Leeds and Jacci Smith from the Ohio State Extension Service; and farmers, Brian Skinner, Doug Dawson, Cameron James, and Mary Fleming.
Don’t miss this opportunity to engage in a meaningful conversation about the past, present, and future of agriculture in Delaware County, and to better understand how we can support this vital industry moving forward. Join us for a collaborative discussion that honors our agricultural heritage and looks ahead to what’s next!
