THE MECHANIZATION OF FARMING (CANCELED)
We will collaborate with the Delaware County Antique Farm Machinery Association to have a panel discussion about how farming in Delaware County has changed and continues to change with mechanization.

THE HORSE WORLD IN DELAWARE COUNTY: 1940-2000
September 4, 2025 – Thursday, 6:00PM – The Barn At Stratford, 2690 Stratford Road, Delaware
Margaret Duber Snyder will moderate a panel of four speakers including Bob Murphy discussing his father, saddlebred trainer Walter Murphy, Pat Cashman talking about the Cashman family and horses, Marilyn Evans talking about 4H horses and kids, and Diane Winters telling her story of how she met everyone through horses. We will also have a display of equine art by area artists and other interesting material.
ART EXHIBIT AND SALE (In Conjunction With Horse World Listed Above)
September 4, 2025 – Thursday, 6:00PM – The Barn At Stratford, 2690 Stratford Road, Delaware
Exhibits and Displays of The Horse World in Delaware County: In addition to a program of speakers (7 -8:30) and the art show and sale (6 – 7).
the Historical Society will have multiple exhibits/displays including:
- An exhibit of saddles (Western, Dressage and Side Saddles)
- A private collection of horseshoe with shoes from draft horses to miniature horse and different shoes necessary for various ground conditions (spring slush, winter ice, baked summer soil) – think especially of working animals (draft horses or carriage horses) and shoes needed by a performing Lipizan, a parade horse walking on asphalt, or a race horse or a hunter-jumper. This exhibit will be accompanied by several short videos talking about different aspects of horse shoes and horse shoeing
- An exhibit on the various breeds of horse – many national champions – from Delaware County
- An exhibits on the trainers, drivers/riders, farms/owners in Delaware County
- and more!
