Delaware County Historical Society Continues
Popular Cemetery Walk Tour Series at Oak Grove Cemetery

The Delaware County Historical Society (DCHS) announces continuation of the popular cemetery tour series with an Oak Grove Cemetery walk, taking place on Sunday, October 8.

Two-hour walking tours will begin at 1:00 PM, with groups of up to 12 participants leaving every 20 minutes. The final tour group will depart at 3:00 PM, and each tour will take about two hours to complete. Tour groups will meet at the Cemetery at 334 S. Sandusky Street, Delaware.

Back by popular demand, we’re pleased to offer another opportunity to honor our ancestors and share their stories,” said Donna Meyer, DCHS Executive Director. “This tour will focus on notable individuals from Delaware County, researched and presented by our knowledgeable reenactors, volunteers and local historians.

Reenactors will tell the stories of prominent Delaware residents, including:

  • Robert Johnson, Civil War Veteran
  • Prince Albert Mendenhall, Baker for Ohio Wesleyan
  • Fred Bauereis, Delaware Merchant
  • Ezra Griswold, Delaware Gazette & Postmaster
  • Charlotte Denison, Educator and officer of the family-owned Delaware Clay Co.
  • James Eaton, Early Delaware County Surveyor
  • Mary Grady, Namesake of Grady Memorial Hospital

Groups will depart at 1:00PM, 1:20PM, 1:40PM, 2:00PM, 2:20PM, 2:40PM, and 3:00PM. Tours will primarily follow cemetery roads, but it may be necessary to walk on some uneven ground during the tour. Participants are encouraged to wear flat, comfortable shoes and dress for the weather.

In the event of inclement weather, a change of venue determination will be made by 10:00 AM on the day of the event. Should the forecast include poor weather, the event will be moved to The Barn as Stratford – 2690 Stratford Road, Delaware. Inclement weather communication will be emailed to registered attendees and posted to the DCHS Facebook page.
