The Program

Benny Shoults and Brent Carson will discuss the history of the businesses on East Winter Street, from the Olentangy River to Sandusky Street.

At 7:00 p.m. this 2-hour program will begin with a presentation in the

East Winter St Map - History Program - Delaware County Historical Society - Delaware Ohio

Library Community Room, 84 E. Winter Street.

Following the presentation, Benny and Brent will lead a walking tour starting from the Winter Street bridge and finishing at Sandusky Street.

The tour will take you on an adventure down East Winter Street. You will hear stories about the businesses (liveries, bars, entertainments), history, and the different buildings and events that were found at the turn of the century. You’ll hear stories about the damaging flood of 1913, the William’s Opera Hall, and New York Cash Store. From jet planes in the middle of the street to the National Pen Art Hall, Winter Street has a lot to offer to those who decide to join us on this history tour.

About The Tour Leaders

Benny Shoults is curator of the Meeker Homestead Museum, and chair of the Museum and Exhibits committee of the Delaware County Historical Society. He has been a member of the Board since 2011. Benny has helped create and lead many Delaware History tours including the Downtown Historic Theater Tour (2016). Benny owns Frame Artistry in Delaware Ohio. Where “Frame Artistry is all about THE ART OF PRESENTATION”. Benny is also a supporter of Main Street Delaware, and the Arts Castle’s Gallery 22.

Brent Carson is president emeritus of the society, a known authority on Delaware history and a legendary teller of historic stories.
