Fall Blooming Iris - The Barn at Stratford - Event Venue - Delaware OhioDonna Meyer, Executive Director of the Delaware County Historical Society and Master Gardener, reported a fall blooming Iris:

“I want to leave you with a photo of an Iris currently blooming on the south side of the Barn. I am sure many of you know that these are spring-blooming flowers and it is a little unusual to have one bloom in November. I think the color is spectacular and I am sure these were planted by Carolyn Porter. I think of the Porter’s generous gift of this property and the wonderful perennial beds when I see the flowers she loved, and we love as well.

The Barn is surrounded by the six acres of manicured grounds of the Meeker Homestead. Flower beds and hanging baskets of live flowers adorn the barn and the gazebo which overlooks ancient trees.

Carolyn Porter

Tom and Carolyn Porter joined Garth Oberlander in operating Garth’s Auction in the 1970’s. They lived in the historic Meeker House as Garth constructed and moved to an apartment in his beloved barn. After Garths death, the Porters acquired the entire business and property. They continued their residence in the home, continued to build Garth’s Auctions renown for many years. In 2009, Tom and Carolyn Porter donated the house and property to the Delaware County Historical Society to preserve it for the benefit of all.

The Meeker Homestead

The gifted property is now the Meeker House Museum and The Barn at Stratford Event Venue owned and operated by the Delaware County Historical Society.
