About the Program
The program is a visit with a civil war soldier from the 127th Ohio Volunteer Infantry.
The war between the North and the South
steps out of the pages of history.
This program, centering on the African American contributions to the war, shares the basics of the American conflict:
- Who was involved
- Where the war took place
- What was used in the war
- Why the war started
Learn what made the United States Colored Troops different, and what they accomplished by fighting in the Civil War. This visit from a Civil War soldier will enhance your knowledge with many visual aids that make history come alive for you.
The 127th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, which became the 5th Regiment United States Colored Infantry, trained at Camp Delaware, near Delaware, Ohio.
This photo of the 127th was taken on Sandusky Street between William and Winter Streets.
The house in the photo has since been replaced by stores.

About the Presenter
Anthony Gibbs has traveled throughout the state of Ohio as a teaching artist and living history performer. Anthony has portrayed living history characters such as:
John Parker, an Underground Railroad conductor from Ripley, OH
Milton Holland, a soldier and Medal of Honor recipient of the 5th U.S.C.T
and other key figures in American History.
Mr. Gibbs is a professional teaching artist who has designed and presented historical programs and character impressions for groups of all ages. He shares true dramatic stories in schools, libraries, museums, and other venues. Anthony captures his audiences with spellbinding performances that keep listeners on the edge of their seats. He is a gifted storyteller and astute in his knowledge of historical content. He engages the audience in his presentations with his commanding presence, historical knowledge, authentic props, and excellent oratorical skills. He studied at the Ohio State University in the field of History. The stories he brings to life are tales of great courage, tireless determination, and long-lasting hope. Anthony loves history and leaves his audiences with a greater respect and appreciation for the power of storytelling and the timeless messages we can all learn from memorable moments of the past.
Mr. Gibbs is the Coordinator of Community Engagement of the Ohio History Connection. He is founder and Creative Director of Historic Impressions. Historic Impressions seeks to create unforgettable experiences through significant stories from the past that give relevant, valuable insights for the present and the future.
